Ingredients

  • 1 cup bisquick
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 4 medium carrots, chopped
  • 2 lb round, tip, or chuck steak cut into 1 inch pieces
  • ½ teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large slow cooker, stir together all of the stew ingredients
  2. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.For dumplings, mix together all ingredients until a wet dough forms
  3. Uncover the stew mixture and drop dumplings by the heaping tablespoon full onto the stew pieces
  4. Try not to drop it into the liquid
  5. This made about 6 dumplings.Cover and allow dumplings to cook for 25-30 minutes or until puffed and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
